Wednesday, August 28

  • Audubon International announced winners in several categories for its eighth annual BioBlitz competition. Southwinds Golf Course in Boca Raton, FL, received the Community Engagement Award for the second straight year. Wilmington Country Club in Wilmington, DE, nabbed second place while Glencoe Golf Club in Glencoe, IL, repeated its third-place honor from 2023. Naples Lakes Country Club in Naples, FL, received this year’s Biodiversity Award. Second place for Biodiversity went to Niagara Parks Commission Whirlpool Golf Course in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. The University of Maryland Golf Course in College Park, MD, took third place.

Tuesday, August 27

  • AMGUARD Environmental Technologies is pleased to announce the promotion of Duffey Clark to the position of Vice President, Commercial Operations, of OHP Inc., a leading provider of technology-based solutions for greenhouse and nursery production applications. Clark will lead OHP’s sales, marketing, and key account efforts in the ornamental, nursery, and greenhouse markets. Read more on AMGUARD's website.

Wedensday, August 14

  • PBI Gordon announced the release of Aethon herbicide SL for Turfgrass. According to the company, the herbicide helps control sedges, killings and several broadleaf weeds in warm-season grasses such as Floratam, Bitterblue, and other improved varieties of St. Augustinegrass.
  • FMC Corporation announced their upcoming “Weed Identification” webinar for September 6th. The new course is part of FMC Global Specialty Solutions monthly 1st Friday webinar lawn series and is from 2-3 p.m. ET. The webinar reviews the importance of proper weed identification and the basics of identifying grasses, sedges, and broadleaf weeds. Register on FMC's website.

Tuesday, August 13

  • PBI-Gordon announced the release of Aetheon Herbicide SL for Turfgrass. According to the company, the herbicide delivers dependable postemergent control of sedges (yellow, purple, and annual), kyllinga (green, false green, cockscomb, and annual), dollarweed, doveweed, ground ivy, chickweed, plantain, and several labeled broadleaf weeds in a time-saving, single application, in addition to reducing the number and viability of nutsedge tubers.
  • Amwins announced the launch of their "Tees-to-Green" flood insurance program powered by Floodbase and backed by "A" rated carriers designed to reimburse U.S. golf courses for lost revenue and repair costs incurred when courses are flooded. According to the company, the first-of-its-kind program fills a significant gap in flood coverage available to courses or golfing events.

  • The Florida Golf Course Superintendents Association has honored Andy Jorgensen, CGCS, with its Distinguished Service Award. Jorgensen, director of community maintenance operations for On Top of the World Communities in Ocala, received his award recently during the association’s annual meeting at Sailfish Point golf Club in Stuart, Fla.
